I always regretted not experiencing last year’s version so I was understandably giddy at the opportunity to try the Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes ($60 CAD) for Holiday 2013.
The packaging is sleek and there is no wasted space. That is so important to me. The exterior of the compact is a cushiony faux pebbled leather. There is a flap on the cover that folds down over the side of the compact with a magnetic closure. The magnetic closure is not that strong though so I would be careful when you pack or carry it.
The shades included are:
- Sparkling Dew
- Guava
- African Violet
- Plum Smoke
- Kir Royal
- Violet Ink
- Vanilla Nuts
- Primrose
- Fresco
- Bamboo
- Truffle
- Espresso Bean
Last years palette also included Guava, African Violet, Plum Smoke, and Vanilla Nuts. Each eyeshadow is 0.03 oz compared to the 0.09oz single shadows that retail for $28 CAD.
Six of the twelve eyeshadows in this palette are matte. Hallelujah! Laura Mercier makes excellent quality, smooth matte eyeshadows that aren’t chalky and blend beautifully. The palette also includes four sateen shades; Sparkling Dew, Guava, Primrose, and Kir Royal. Sparkling Dew, Guava and Primrose are quite shimmery but Kir Royal is a very much a sateen finish and works well in the crease. The remaining shades African Violet and Bamboo are luster finishes. African Violet is stunning. This lovely purple is full of stunning gold shimmer. It is very prone to fallout but the result is worth the extra care taken. The shimmer effect in Bamboo is much more subtle.
The quality of this palette is exceptional. This is a very complete palette. Vanilla Bean is a great matte ivory shade for use as a base. Sparkling Dew has the perfect level of sheen for a brow bone highlight. There are several matte shades for use in the crease as well as dark shades for contouring the eye. You could easily live on this palette alone for a weekend or week away. The only caveat would be that the overall effect of the palette is quite dark on fairer skin tones like mine. The shades blend beautifully so it’s not an issue but I can see there being a learning curve involved for some. That and you must love purple!
This is a limited edition palette so get the Laura Mercier Artist’s Palette for Eyes ($60 CAD) at Sephora while you can!
