This week’s challenge for the Fashion Magazine Beauty Panel was to come up with a Halloween look. I don’t really do Halloween. I hate the idea of spending a whole bunch of money on costumes and props like wigs and contacts for one day. I decided to push myself out of my comfort zone and try something different and fun that I could do with what I already had at home. At first I was wracking my brain trying to come up with some sort of cartoon or movie character to do but then I decided that I would just wing it and create something. I decided on the theme of Autumn Fairy and sat down to create a look with fall inspired colours.
First I created a blank canvas by using an almost white foundation. I set it with transparent powder and then illuminated my complexion with some highlighting powder for an ethereal glow. I brought shape back to my face by doing some contouring with a matte bronzer under my cheekbones, temples, sides of my nose, and jaw area. Once my complexion was done I looked at my Inglot Freedom 20 palette and decided to start with Pearl 414. A deep shimmering green. I hadn’t actually used this colour before and had no idea how pretty it was! My plan of starting with dark green to rim my eyes and building out from there in the other shades of changing leaves was abandoned when I saw how stunning Inglot Pearl 414 was. I still had my smudger brush in hand and kept building until I ended up with this very exaggerated wing shape that went up and well beyond my hooded lids. I actually totally dig it! I may have to try and recreate a more wearable version of this.

I then took a dark burnt copper matte shade, Inglot Matte 335, and a shimmering gold eyeshadow, Inglot Pearl 403, to create a graduated effect radiating out from the temple.

I then used the Gold and Copper Lancome Artliner 24H liquid liners to trace out some designs that worked with the winged out look.

I then added a heavy dose of Lit Cosmetics copper glitter to the temple area, some complex green and copper glitter on my eyelids, and completed the look with the same copper liquid liner and glitter on my lips, and some crazy fun lashes from Illamasqua that I just knew I’d find a use for eventually! Ta da! Autumn Fairy. Not the greatest Halloween look around but it was actually super quick and really easy. It was nice to just let loose and slap stuff on willy nilly, letting my imagination take over. I’m thinking it might be fun to do a snow fairy next. Maybe I’ll actually dress up for Halloween this year… nah… not likely. 😉
