I don’t think I could have thought of a better formula, than Kat Von D’s signature matte eyeshadow formula, for the creation of an all matte pastel eyeshadow palette. The richly pigmented, ultra creamy, and blendable matte shadow formula is the perfect compliment to pastel hues. The new Kat Von D Pastel Goth Eyeshadow Palette ($38 US/$51 CAD) is fantastic, not only for the beautiful quality of the shadows, but also for the particular pastel shades that are included. These pastels are a little more saturated and have a gorgeous, almost murky quality to them, that just makes them a little more wearable, and dare I say a little more “grown up”, than your typical pastel eyeshadows.
The eight shades in the palette are:
- Star (matte daffodil yellow)
- Clementine (matte peach)
- Meow (matte lilac)
- Dope (matte lavender)
- Doom (matte sky blue)
- Gloom (matte meadow green)
- Dagger (matte stone gray)
- Skull (matte pure white)
Matte shadows, and especially light shades like these, can often have a chalky quality to them but the Pastel Goth palette has none of that chalkiness to it. The shadows offer great colour payoff while still looking flattering on the skin.
Now before you get all critical on me for the look below, keep in mind I literally just slapped all eight shades on my eyes for testing purposes. I actually ended up liking it a lot more than I thought. Even though it’s not the kind of look I would usually wear out of the house. 😉 I should have added some falsies just for fun. Oh well. Next time!
I think if you love colourful shadows then you will love this palette. As the day worn on I loved this look more and more. I didn’t notice any fading at all at the end of the day. The only drawback I would say, is that if you have dry lids like I do, the matte shadows aren’t always the best option. That is a given with any completely matte formula .
Will you be picking up the new Kat Von D Pastel Goth Palette? I am so happy I played with it because I am far more in love then I ever expected!

I love this palette, too. I like to use it with shades from the MetalMatte palette, Interstellar palette, or Shade and Light palette, and/or topped with a shade from the Alchemist Holographic Transformer palette. I like the way the palettes from this brand work well together.

Love MetalMatte and S&L. Alchemist takes some work, and it’s pricey for the teeny pans, but really is pretty when all’s said and done.

Ohh I must try the Holographic palette on top!!! I don’t have MetalMatte 🙁

I love the look you did with it! I remember when you posted it on Snapchat, but I wasn’t fast enough to reply. This palette looks beautiful and sounds amazing to work with.

Thanks! It’s not as easy to work with as say the Shade + Light Palette but I found it great for pastel mattes!

I really like the look you did with this – if I had skills like yours, I would definitely wear this outside the house!

I usually love things KVD, but this palette wasn’t pastel goth at all. The formula was incredibly chalky and had a ton of kick up, and for all that, the shades were blah in brush swatches and worse on the lid. I can’t imagine how much time you had to devote to getting those colors to show UP.
I know that everyone can have a different experience with cosmetics, but I was wondering, have you ever given a bad review to anything sent to you by PR? This is a serious question. I subscribe to a bunch of beauty blogs, and I’m starting to get really, really annoyed by the gushy lucky reviews on the free stuff. No one EVER ever seems to dislike anything they get for free!
Christa Potter says
I appreciate your frustration. I know that may be the case on some blogs out there but it is not how I operate. I am not going to waste my time gushing over products holding for more PR samples. Yes I do give negative reviews but I never do so in a disrespectful manour bashing a product. Here is a less than favorable review from just a couple weeks ago. https://realizingbeauty.com/makeup/make-up-for-ever-artist-acrylip-lip-paints-review There are many more. You will see more favorable reviews because I don’t post reviews on all the stuff I receive from PR and if I am going to dedicate my time to reviewing something I will obviously be more inclined to post about something I’m excited about rather than something I was disappointed in.
I’m not sure what happened with your Pastel Goth palette. I’d make sure you return it or maybe try exchanging for a different one. Maybe it’s a dud? I honestly didn’t spend much time at all creating this look. I wasn’t even planning on posting it. I just threw all the shade on the test it over MAC painterly paint pot. I didn’t have to pack anything on or anything. Sorry it didn’t work out for you.

Those colors are so fun! I usually stick to neutrals, but after seeing the looks you’ve created, I’m feeling more confident that I could pull off some brights, too!

You make me want to step out of my makeup comfort zone with these looks! So pretty!

These colors are absolutely gorgeous!
