For summer 2013 YSL is releasing four new top coats that really make you take a second look. These top coats feature a unique, triphase technology that layers iridescent nacres, color and a high shine, transparent top coat creating the most breathtaking effect in the bottle. I’ve actually placed these in my windowsill for a little beauty lover’s office decor! In order to put these beauties to use you need to shake, shake, shake!
Once shaken the bottles take on a more traditional appearance yet it is no less breathtaking. The fine shimmer these polishes contain is truly lovely. Ice Coat in particular really stands out as it looks as if it’s practically glowing from within the bottle.
These polishes are very thin and watery so they apply super easily and dry quickly. You must wait until your polish is completely dry before applying these on top. You could wear on bare nails but the effect will be very, very subtle. Even over white the effect is somewhat hard to detect. Where these top coats really stand out is over a coloured polish. They were actually designed with coordinating YSL nail lacquers in mind for four matching, eye catching looks. I do not have the coordinating shades so I have swatched over a variety of polishes to give you an idea of the effect you can expect to achieve. All swatches are shown in order left to right 1 Cool Coat, 2 Pop Coat, 3 Hip Coat, 4 Ice Coat. I find 1 Cool Coat and 4 Ice Coat to have the most noticeable affect on the nail. This is in most part because they seem to have the most dense shimmer content. Ice Coat has quite a duo chrome effect on the nail as it not only contains the very pale pink shimmer but also a mostly translucent shimmer that picks up on the colour it is applied over and alters it.
Overall I am very happy with these. Just the amazing look of them in the bottle is almost justification alone to purchase these. They are very pricey but if you think you would get a lot of use out of these than it may be worth the investment. There are endless possibilities to how these can modify the nail colours currently in your collection.
The YSL Tie & Dye Top Coats ($34 CAD each) will be available in May at Holt Renfrew, selected Bay, Murales & Sephora stores.
