The L’Oreal Paris Colour Riche La Palette Nude 2 Nude Intense ($29.99 CAD) is a true drugstore gem. I must admit, I’m a bit of a makeup snob. I don’t usually have much interest in drugstore makeup, and I love my high end pretties. This new palette from L’Oreal surprised me in the best way.

There are two versions available. Nude 1 is a variety of light too medium tones in shades of ivory, beige, and caramel. Nude 2 Nude Intense (shown) is a mix of medium to deep tones in shades of taupe, mauve, and plum.

The packaging is a sturdy plastic compact with slender mirror and a window that reveals the shades within. The back of the palette shows four looks with detailed instructions on how to recreate them.

The quality of the shadows is lovely. There is a mix of matte, satin, and sheen finishes. Finding quality matte eyeshadows at the drugstore is something I’ve always thought to be an impossibility. Well the matte shades in this palette are smooth and buttery and apply beautifully. I was also pleased to see that there were no overtly shimmery shades in the palette. Given shimmers are the easiest powder shadow formulation to make well it is one that often predominates the drugstore shelves. Pigmentation on the shades ranges from good to great. The shadows also blend beautifully without losing their definition. Yes! Even the mattes. I do highly recommend using an eyeshadow primer or cream base to extend the wear of the shadows as I did experience quite a bit of fading after several hours with no primer. With primer my looks lasted the day.

I highly recommend this palette. I am in love with the matte purples especially. So gorgeous!
