I have always been a big fan of the YSL Glossy Stains. There have been several posts here on Perilously Pale over the years about the formula, and it has been included in many a favorites roundup. Given my love of the product, I was very excited to discover that YSL was launching a new lip stain that shares, what appeared to be, a similar formula. The new YSL Vinyl Cream Lip Stain($36 US/$42 CAD) is indeed similar to the original Glossy Stain. Similar, yet BETTER. What more could a girl ask for!
This new formula offers more pigmented colour coverage with a stunning vinyl shine and long wearing stain. I found the Glossy Stains acquired a bit of tackiness to them throughout their wear, but the new Vinyl Cream Lip Stains seem to remain more stick free.
They are said to offer 10 hour wear but I find this to be a bit of an exaggeration. Let’s be honest, when aren’t wear claims an exaggeration? They do offer incredibly long wear for a glossy lip product. I get several hours out of these before the glossy finish wears off and then you can enjoy another few hours of the luscious stain they leave behind. I find I prefer to touch them up every couple of hours to continue enjoying the glossy cream finish and this serves to further deepen the stain throughout the day.
Like the Glossy Stains, these Vinyl Lip Creams seem to be made of magic. Once you apply and the product “sets” the colour seems to adhere to your lips, while a glossy top coat rises to the surface. This means you have intense, vibrant colour on your lips that doesn’t transfer. The glossy vinyl shine will transfer while the colour hugs your lips. It is something you really have to experience!

The diamond shaped, doe foot applicator on these is a dream to work with. You can expertly outline and fill your lips with ease. I use the pointed surface flat to apply to my cupids bow, the pointed tip on an angle (so only the very tip is touching) to outline the rest of my lips, and then fill in with the full flat applicator surface.

There are a total of 12 shades available. The three shades I have tried are nothing short of breathtaking. So vibrant.
- 405 Explicit Pink
- 406 Orange Electro
- 401 Rouge Vinyle
My favorite way to wear these since receiving them has been in an ombre fashion. I apply Explicit Pink on the perimeter of my mouth and Orange Electro in the center. It looks so, so AMAZING. I always get compliments. *I have no idea how I forgot to photograph this look, but I will update this post with pics tomorrow!*

The formula is said to nourish and smooth lips over time but I do find my lips feel a tad drier after a full day of wear. Nothing that an application of balm before bed doesn’t cure to prep me for another day of fabulous vinyl cream lips the next day!
Are you a YSL Glossy Stain fan? Have you tried these new lush YSL Vinyl Cream Lip Stains yet? I’ll take these any day over ultra drying matte liquid lips!
