I was so excited when I heard that MAKE UP FOR EVER was releasing a new foundation. I feel like it’s been years since they’d launched a new foundation formula, and foundations really are one of their specialties. I mean just think of how iconic the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Foundation is.
I became even more excited when I learned it was a hydrating formula. There have been SO MANY matte long wear foundations launched over these past several years and with my dry skin matte foundations are just not something I can wear.
I tend to look for medium to full coverage natural finish formulas. The new MAKE UP FOR EVER REBOOT Active Care-In-Foundation ($ USD/$51 CAD) is a light to medium finish formula.
This foundation is not just formulated to look good on the skin but goes beyond that to revive your complexion over time. If you feel like your skin’s been looking a little tired lately (hello winter) then this might be a great option for you to try.
The MAKE UP FOR EVER REBOOT Foundation cares for your skin by:
- Brightening
- Smoothing
- Firming
- Hydrating
- Evening Out
It features an Active Care Matrix (a smart biopolymer structure) that functions on the skin’s surface like a face mask. Yes please!
The foundation comes in an impressive 24 shades. MAKE UP FOR EVER is always so great at releasing a great shade variety including a wide depth of shades and tones.
I tested out shade Y218 Porcelain which is the second lightest shade and has a yellow undertone. It is a very good match for me although a little peachier in tone than I prefer.
The coverage is indeed light to medium, leaning more towards light. I don’t tend to “build up” my foundation coverage but my impression is this isn’t really a buildable formula.
I loved that it evened out my skintone while still looking incredibly natural and letting my natural skin come through.
It did not accentuate my dryness which is no small feat these days. That made me very happy!
What I really loved was how flexible this formula was to workwith. I’ve tried applying with brush, beautyblender, and fingers and all worked well. Applying with fingers gives the sheerest coverage and I found applying with a sponge offered the most coverage from the formula.
The biggest test for me with any foundation is does it accentuate my dryness (passed on this front) and does it disappear on my nose and chin. I always struggle with foundation vanishing from my nose (I do blow my nose often during the day thanks to allergies) and my dry chin loves to eat foundation.
I did experience the REBOOT foundation fading on my nose and chin throughout the day but it performed very well compared to most formulas so I’m pretty satisfied with the results.
The foundation is packaged in a sleek glass bottle with a pump. I don’t know about you, but a good pump is a must for me.
