I am hooked on the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadows so when I saw the info on the new MAKE UP FOR EVER campaign, with transgender model Andreja Pejic and actress Jamie Chung, that would include two special, limited edition Artist Shadow Palettes celebrating the freedom of self-express and today’s changing faces of beauty I was very excited. Today I am sharing with you the MAKE UP FOR EVER Be Bold. Be Unexpected. Be You. Andrea Pejic Artist Shadow Palette ($48 US/$96 value | $56 CAD/$111 value).
The exterior cardboard box includes 4 images of Andreja. The looks shown, featuring the work of Mélanie Inglessis, don’t represent the shadows inside, but rather Andreja’s versatility as a model. Andreja, then known as Andrej, had nearly a decade of success as a androgynous model for both menswear and womanswear before deciding in 2014 to fully transition to the woman she had long felt herself to be. The partnership with MAKE UP FOR EVER is the perfect expression of Be Bold. Be Unexpected. Be You. The back of the box clearly shows the four full sized shades of Artist Shadow included in the palette curated by Andreja:
- I-526 – Pearl beige (iridescent) Pale ivory with a pink sheen.
- I-662 – Amber brown (iridescent) This is a beautiful amber brown.
- I-544 – Pink granite (iridescent) – Stunning mauve taupe.
- D-652 – Celestial earth (diamond) – Rich sparkling warm deep brown.
The packaging is a black magnetic tin with snap closure adorned with Andreja Pejic’s autograph.
The magnetic tin is quite deep so once opened there is a thick sponge piece to protect the shadow. Underneath that is a clear plastic piece to further protect the shadows beneath.
The Artist Shadows are magnetized to the bottom of the palette and nestled in another sponge piece to hold their place. You could also remove the shadows and switch out shades in the palette if you so desired.
The sponge layer is not glued in so you can actually remove the entire thing quite easily as shown below.
All four shades are the exceptional quality I’ve come to expect from the MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Shadows. Intense pigment and colour payoff. Smooth, soft, texture with no powdery kickup. These are beautiful shades. I don’t find they work well together as a quad though. I do like mixing contrasting shades for interest but I found the pink iridescence of I-526 clashed with the warm browns and I-544 just didn’t work with I-662 at all. I find using I-526, I-544, and D-652 together yields a beautiful look as well as just pairing I-662 with D-652.
I think this is a great deal at $56 CAD for four Artist Shadows. If you don’t already own these shades I highly recommend this palette. While I adore the shadows I can’t say I’m a fan of the packaging or the colour combo. The packaging is just so cumbersome. You need to open the palette then remove 2 protective layers before you get to the shadows within. I will likely remove the shadows and add them to my collection of other Artist Shadows, either in the MAKE UP FOR EVER trio cases or in a z-palette.
