As a pro makeup artist, and as a consumer and beauty lover, I am a huge MAKE UP FOR EVER fan. I think the brand is finally becoming more and more mainstream thanks to its strong presence at Sephora stores. Lately, the brand has just been on fire releasing one amazing new product after another. Well, this newest launch has me incredibly excited. The new MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Face Color Powder ($23 US/$29 CAD) is a range of Highlight, Sculpt, and Blush Powders available in an impressive 34 shades. There is so much here to love for every skin tone.
First of all, let’s talk about the formula of these powders. The formula features atomized pigments to give the incredible color payoff while also blending out to a natural finish with ease. They are very finely milled and melt into the skin for a beautiful finish. They don’t look dry or powdery. They don’t kick up a lot of powder in the pan. They are just very, very well done.
The colour selection is gorgeous. The hues certainly lean more natural and flattering with some bold pops of colour added into the mix. There are six highlighter shades in a mix of matte and shimmer finishes. Eighteen blush shades in predominately matte finishes with a few pearl shades mixed in, and ten sculpting shades in a matte finish. I am so excited to have 18 of the shades to share with you today.
First up we have 5 of the 6 highlighter shades:
- H102 – shimmery pink alabaster highlight
- H104 – eggshell highlight
- H106 – shimmery champagne highlight
- H108 – banana highlight
- H312 – shimmery gold copper highlight
Missing is H100 – ivory highlight. I think I’m going to need that one! H102 and H106 are stunning highlighters. They offer a radiant glow on the skin and can be applied lightly for a more natural finish and built up more for a high impact highlight. These also make beautiful browbone and inner corner of the eye highlights. H104 is a matte highlighter and it is my new go to all over base shade for my eyes. Yes, I couldn’t resist using it this way. I’m not being on using matte highlighter shades on the face (likely because my skin is so fair it doesn’t really accomplish anything) so I immediately saw this as the perfect option for a pale nude eyeshadow base shade to apply from crease to browbone and set my eyeshadow primer. H108 is a great banana toned under eye brightening powder for those with deeper skin tones than mine. H312 is crazy gorgeous. These pictures don’t do it justice. It will, of course, be a stunning highlighter on deeper skin tones, but I immediately put this beauty on my eyelids.
Next up we’ll take a look at 7 of the 18 available blush shades:
- B204 – cold pink blush
- B208 – english pink blush
- B216 – fuchsia blush
- B302 – shimmery peach blush
- B308 – coral blush
- B402 – vermillion blush
- B500 – plum blush (shown below with the contour colours because I can’t read :P)
I am loving these blushes! Most of the shades I have are matte. They offer really bold, vibrant pigment while still being easy to work with and blend, even on my fair skin. I’m so impressed that even a pale matte shade like B204 has no chalky quality at all. The shimmery shade (B302) is a really natural subtle shimmer that gives a natural radiant finish. Nothing sparkly or shimmery.
And finally we have 6 of the 10 available sculpt shades:
- S112 – shadow sculpt
- S116 – medium shadow sculpt
- S118 – dark shadow sculpt
- S214 – rosewood blush
- S300 – pastel coral blush
- S310 – praline blush
The first two sculpt shades have such a great tone too them. They aren’t so cool toned, or grey that they look dirty or bruise like. They are just perfect taupe tones that create a natural shadow on my skin. I think The dark shadow sculpt with it’s hint of red will look gorgeous on deeper skin tones.
Now you’ll notice that three of these shades that are (S)culpt shades are described as blushes in their shade descriptions. That is because depending on skin tone you may want to sculpt with a different tone other than brown/taupe. But these shades also happen to make gorgeous blushes! There is no right or wrong way to use these shades. As evidenced by the fact that I’ve been loving wearing them as much on my eyes as my face!
Here are some looks I created when testing out the new MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Face Powders. I tested these new Artist Face Powders not only on my face, but on my eyes as well. I was in love with the results and know that some of these will become go too eyeshadows for me as well.
The look on the left features S112 to sculpt the face, B302 as a blush, and H106 as a highlighter. On the eyes I’m wearing H104 from crease to brow as a base, H106 as an inner corner and browbone highlight, H312 on the lid, S116 in the crease, and S118 on the outer v and into the crease.
The look on the left features S112 to sculpt the face, B204 as a blush, and H102 as a highlighter. On the eyes I used H104 crease to brow as a base, H102 on the lid and as an inner corner and browbone highlight, S214 in the crease, and B500 on the outer v and into the crease.
I am loving how versatile these are. The colour payoff and ease of blending makes them perfect for anything you can think of. Another amazing feature is how versatile the packaging is. These are sold as individual pans. For professionals who want to have a large variety of shades on hand you can fill a Z-Palette or other large magnetized palette. For personal (or professional) use you can purchase the MAKE UP FOR EVER Palettes. This revolutionary palette system allows you to create custom Single, Duo, or Trio palettes that are refillable. The palette combos are specially priced and include the Artist Face Color shades. The Single is ($31 CAD), Duo ($35 US/$44 CAD), and Trio ($45 US/$56 CAD). You can switch around and refill your palettes anyway you choose. They are excellent quality, weighty and sturdy palettes. The Duo and Trio palettes include a mirror and the Single palette has a clear window to easily see the shade within. I absolutely love the idea of creating your very own highlight, blush, and contour Trio palette. Well, I actually love the idea of creating two in different tones! One for when I’m wearing more pink tones and one for when I’m wearing more peachy warm tones.
I highly recommend these MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Face Colors! Let me know which ones you pick up!
