Urban Decay recently stepped up their priming and setting game with a range of new products to ensure your makeup applies beautifully and stays looking flawless all day. With an impressive two new Priming Sprays, three new Primers, and the relaunch of their three Setting Sprays, it’s hard to know where to start. Here is a breakdown of what all the new products have to offer.
First up we have the two new Priming Sprays. These sprays are designed to be applied to clean skin before you apply your moisturizers and other skincare and before makeup application. The Urban Decay Quick Fix Hydra-Charged Complexion Prep Priming Spray ($31 US/$39 CAD) is formulated to balance and invigorate the skin. It hydrates, soothes, and brightens the skin as well as helping reduce the visibility of pores. It includes a deliciously smelling mix of vitamin B3, Septitonic M3, and coconut water to feed and energize your skin.
Ingredients: Aqua / Water, Hamamelis Virginiana Water / Witch Hazel Water, Niacinamide, Propanediol, Cocos Nucifera Water / Coconut Water, Glycereth-5 Lactate, PEG-35 Castor Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Caffeine, Dimethicone PEG-7 Phosphate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycolic Acid, Bisabolol, Parfum / Fragrance, Carnitine, Ethylhexylglycerin, Zinc Gluconate, Magnesium Aspartate, Leuconostoc/Radish Root, Ferment Filtrate, Benzyl Benzoate, Coumarin, Copper Gluconate, Benzyl Alcohol.
The Urban Decay B6 Vitamin-Infused Complexion Prep Priming Spray ($31 US/$39 CAD) was originally launched in 2013. It preps, primes, and balances the skin while absorbing oil, fighting shine, and helping to even out the complexion. The formula is enriched with stabilized vitamin B6, antioxidant vitamin E, and exfoliating willow bark.
Ingredients: Aqua / Water, Alcohol Denat., Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Phenoxyethanol, Propanediol, Xylityl Phosphate, Polyhydroxystearic Acid, Salix Nigra Bark Extract / Willow Bark Extract, Menthyl Ethylamido Oxalate, Glycereth-5 Lactate, Xylitol, Isononyl Isononanoate, Ethylhexyl Isononanoate, Sodium Cocamidopropyl PG-Dimonium Chloride Phosphate, Silica, Pyridoxine Cyclic Phosphate, Panthenol, Sodium Hydroxide, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopheryl Acetate, Hydrolyzed Soy Protein, Fructan, Phenylpropanol, Methyl Diisopropyl Propionamide, Caprylyl Glycol, Parfum / Fragrance, Butylene Glycol, Coconut Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice Powder, Maltodextrin, Tocopherol, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate.
Both of the priming sprays come packaged in eye catching soft touch neon green bottles with a frosted white cap. They gently dispense the product with a beautiful microfine mist.
The range of Urban Decay primers brings us two silicone based primers and an oil absorbing silica and clay derivative based formula.
The new Urban Decay Optical Illusion Complexion Primer ($34 US/$38 CAD) gives skin a soft focus, airbrushed effect thanks to it’s brightening and light scattering properties combined with the blurring effect of smoothing out pores and fine lines. The formula includes a blend of argan, rosehip, and meadowfoam seed oils, along with vitamin e, to moisturize and condition the skin making it the most suitable for dry skin out of the three primers. Because of this it is the one I use most often.
Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Silica, Ethylhexyl Hydroxystearate Benzoate, Glycerin, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Rosa Canina Fruit Oil, Limnanthes Alba Seed Oil / Meadowfoam Seed Oil, Polyglyceryl-3 Diisostearate, Dimethiconol, Triethoxycaprylylsilane, Glyceryl Caprylate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Aqua / Water, Hydroxyapatite, Sodium Olivoyl Glutamate, Phenoxyethanol, Propylene Glycol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin. May Contain: Mica, CI 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, CI 77491 / Iron Oxides.
The Urban Decay Self-Adjusting Complexion Primer ($34 US/$38 CAD) also blurs the look of pores and wrinkles while also evening out the complexion with color-correcting encapsulated pigments that adapt to your skin tone. The longer you blend the more pigment is released so just work the primer until your skin until you are happy with the shade match This makes it a great primer to use alone on no makeup days when you just want your skin to look blurred, matte, and naturally perfected. The formula also includes skin conditioning vitamin E along with corn powder to offer oil absorption and shine control.
Ingredients: Isododecane, Dimethicone, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Synthetic Fluorphlogopite, Aluminum Starch Octenylsuccinate, Polyester-1, Aqua / Water, Silica Dimethyl Silylate, Methicone, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tocopherol. May Contain: CI 77891 / Titanium Dioxide, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499 / Iron Oxides, Mica.
If controlling oil and shine is your primary concern then the Urban Decay De-Slick Complexion Primer ($34 US/$38 CAD) is the primer for you. This oil absorbing primer not only keeps shine at bay but also smoothes out the skin by filling in pores and fine lines. It is formulated with veegum (natural clay derivative) and silica (absorbs up to 3X it’s weight in oil). This light, mattifying formula can also be applied on top of makeup to touch up your shine control without disturbing your makeup.
Ingredients: Aqua / Water, Argilla / Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Propanediol, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Parfum / Fragrance, Citric Acid, Aloe Barbadensis Extract / Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Extract, Hexyl Cinnamal, Saccharide Isomerate, Limonene, Linalool, Citral, Allantoin, Benzyl Salicylate, Tocopherol, Disodium Carboxyethyl Siliconate. May Contain: CI 77491, CI 77492 / Iron Oxides.
All of the Urban Decay primers come in sleek airless pump clear bottles with gunmetal caps and bases. Very slick!
The Urban Decay Makeup Setting Sprays, as well as the Priming Sprays, are developed with an exclusive partnership with Skindinavia. If you are not familiar with Skindinavia, they are the ultimate in professional setting sprays and all I carry in my pro kit. You can use the Urban Decay Makeup Setting Sprays with the confidence that they will perform, giving you long lasting makeup without a tight or sticky feel on the skin. I don’t believe they have changed the formulas of these setting sprays, as the ingredient listings appear the same, but they smell different. I don’t care for the new scent. They now come in beautiful soft touch black bottles with purple sprayers and a white, frosted cap. The sprayer delivers a calibrated, microfine mist for the perfect light finish to your makeup.

Urban Decay Chill Cooling and Hydrating Setting Spray ($31 US/$39 CAD) actually cools the surface of your makeup to lock it in place for up to 12 hours without it smudging or settling into fine lines. With it’s hydrating properties it’s my setting spray of choice from the three for daily use.

The priming and setting sprays are both double capped which is great for preventing leakage, but a bit of a hassle when it comes time to use them. There are also travel size versions of the setting and priming sprays available for $15 US/$18 CAD. I have a travel size of the All Nighter that I got for travel and I love having the smaller version to take along with me.
I am loving the sprays. If you have dry skin like I do your best bets are the Quick Fix Priming Spray, Optical Illusion Primer, and Chill or All Nighter Setting Sprays. I wish Urban Decay had of included a primer that was targeted more at hydrating, or even plumping and firming, for those of us that have drier or aging skin types. Silicone primers don’t tend to cooperate well with my skin, or my skincare, and I certainly don’t need an oil control primer.
I know some of you may cringe at the idea of all these extra steps in your routine, but you really would be amazed at the difference proper priming and setting can make for your makeup look. Have you tried any of these out yet? What are your favorites?

Well, I agree with you about what is missing from their offerings. I won’t use anything with alcohol. Thanks but no thanks.
