The Smashbox Double Exposure Palette ($39 US/$45 CAD) may not be new, it was released almost a year ago, but it is new to me! With so many fabulous new palettes hitting the shelves this time of year, I wanted to make sure I fit a review of this amazing palette in before the holidays. If you have yet to try this palette, or have it and had forgotten how much you love it, then a little reminder of what a great beauty gift this palette makes is surely welcome. The palette comes with a mini Smashbox Full Exposure Mascara.
The Double Exposure Palette contains 14 eyeshadows that are formulated to transform when used wet. These shadows do not need to be used wet because they are lacking in pigmentation. It is quite the opposite. Dry these shadows are richly pigmented, smooth and velvety. Truly stunning. Using them wet rather alters these shadows in one of four ways.
- Amped up vibrancy.
- Deepens the shade.
- Becomes more metallic.
- Adds sparkle.
The palette comes with a double ended brush. The domed side absorbs just the right amount of water for using the shadows damp. The angled side is perfect for using the shadows wet as a liner, or a soft diffused line when used dry.
The shades in the palette are:
Top Row
- Silver – shimmer dry, metallic wet
- Mauve – Satin dry, metallic wet
- Peony – Shimmer dry, metallic wet
- Blanc – Shimmer dry, metallic wet
- Quartz – Shimmer dry, more vibrant wet
- Flushed – Shimmer dry, deeper shade wet
- Veiled – Satin dry, more vibrant wet
Top swatches are dry, bottom wet.
Bottom Row
- Midnight – Satin dry, adds sparkle wet.
- Temper – Satin dry, adds sparkle wet.
- Haze – Shimmer dry, gets deeper wet.
- Noir – Matte dry, gets deeper wet.
- Copper – Shimmer dry, metallic wet.
- Fig – Matte dry, gets deeper wet.
- Espresso – Matte dry, gets deeper wet.
Top swatches are dry, bottom are wet.
I am loving this palette. The shadows are stunning. There are so many gorgeous looks you can create. I love using combinations of Quartz, Flushed, Copper and Fig as well as Mauve, Peony, Temper, and Haze. So beautiful. It isn’t what I would consider an “all in one palette” for my skin tone, as the shades are quite deep for the most part. I usually need to incorporate some other shadows for base, highlight, and transition shades. But that doesn’t lessen my love for it at all.
The price was recently reduced on the palette, score!, and it is available at Shoppers Drug Mart/Pharmaprix, Murale, Sephora, Ulta, and Smashbox.com.
