My skin is dry year round, and the fall and winter months prove especially trying. I find I can never bring enough moisture to my skin. Dry, sensitive skin can make the cold weather down right miserable. It can also be incredibly aging over the long term. The Eau ThermaleAvène Hydrance Optimale skincare range is all about offering maximum hydration to sensitive skin which sounds exactly like the kind of products I need in my routine.
In September 2015 Avène adds a new product to the Hydrance Optimale line. The Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector ($38 CAD/40ml) is a product that offers not only incredible hydration but also evens out your complexion, protects it from environmental stress, and gives you a healthy glow. It of course contains Avène Thermal Spring Water which is at the heart of Avène skincare. Avène Thermal Spring Water is a water rich in silicates and trace elements and a perfect balance of minerals. It has a neutral pH level and acts as an anti-irritant, soothing skin. This new cream moisturizes, protects with the powerful antioxidant Pre-tocopheryl, and blurs and brightens the complexion.
I’m grateful I had this opportunity to test out the new Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector because, in all honesty, if had of swatched this product in store I would have gone running for the hills and never given it a chance. At first glance the Healthy Glow shade is pretty off-putting for someone as fair as myself. Not only did it look too dark, but also far too warm. Well I should have known that Avène had some kind of technological wizardry up their sleeves because once massaged into the skin I was left with a believable kiss of colour and a glowing, dewy complexion.
This wizardry is their Adjust-Color technology. It adapts to your skin tone and colour to offer a flattering shade for your complexion. It has a combination of mattifying and smoothing soft focus agents fill imperfections to better dispense the light. I found it did a great job of camouflaging my sun spots and pigmentation while leaving me with a bare, dewy skin look. It contains an interferential mother-of-pearl duo for glow, a violet mother-of-pearl to banish dullness and copper hues to lessen shadowy areas. It’s like your skin but so much better. It comes in both Rich and Light versions to address your level of dehydration. You can see below how the product adjusted to my skin and lost the scary peach tones and became a beautiful healthy shade.
The application above is quite a heavy application but the RICH is so intensely hydrating I could have gone for much less product for a subtler result that still leaves me with moisturized glowing skin. I would feel very comfortable going out of the house foundation free with this product. When I do opt for full makeup I can often just skip foundation and apply concealer where needed, a bit of powder, and my complexion is ready to go. My favourite way to use the Avène Hydrance Optimale Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector is for mornings when I’m in a rush and need to get the kids to school or run a quick errand. I can literally skip my entire skincare and makeup routine and only apply the Skin Tone Perfector. My skin is moisturized and comfortable and my complexion is so much more even. I just need a quick coat of mascara and a tinted balm and I look 10X more presentable in mere minutes.
The perfect compliments to the new Skin Tone Perfector are the Eau Thermale Avène Thermal Spring Water and the other products in the Hydrance Optimale range. I love spritzing my skin with the thermal water before applying my skincare to seal in an extra boost of hydration.
Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Serum ($44 CAD/30ml) contains liposomes saturated with Avène Thermal Spring Water and a hydrophilic 3D matrix made of marine polymer filaments that retain the liposomes and releases them based on the skins hydration needs throughout the day. If you love Avène Thermal Spring Water than you need this serum. With a 77% concentration it has the highest concentration of Avène Thermal Spring Water in the entire line. It has a light aqua-gel texture and absorbs quickly into the skin instantly relieving tightness and dryness.
In the evenings, when you aren’t using your Hydrating Skin Tone Perfector, you can instead use the Eau Thermale Avène Hydrance Optimale Moisturizer ($37.50/40ml). It is also available in a Light version, for normal to combination skin, and a Rich version, for dry to very dry skin.
