TheShimmering Marsala Cheek Trio ($28 US/$35 CAD) is one of many must haves in the SEPHORA + PANTONE UNIVERSE 2015 Colour of the Year Marsala 18-1438 Capsule Collection. The press info for this gorgeous compact state that it is a chic compact containing two matte blushes paired with a cream highlighter. Please note that when they refer to the highlighter as a cream they must be referring to the shade being a cream colour as the palette is all powders. Mind you the triple jet milled process they have used gives these powders the most incredibly creamy smooth, velvety texture. They include a unique blend of naturally-derived oils and powders to beautifully enhance your complexion.
The exterior packaging features a transparent marsala ombre effect. It is really quite lovely. Things get even prettier when you open up the exterior packaging to reveal the product packaging itself. All the products in the collection are housed in palettes that have either a gold finish or rose gold (one might call it marsala tinged gold) finish. I’m not sure whether the variation in tone of the gold packaging was intentional or not but the Shimmering Marsala Cheek Trio has more standard gold toned packaging while the eye palette and liner for instance have the more marsala tinged gold finish.
The palette includes the highlighter shade Spanish Villa (0.11oz), blush shade Coral Pink (0.11oz) and the blush shade Marsala (0.17oz).
These powders are soooo creamy and pigmented. They are blend like a dream. I was initially worried that with how pigmented Marsala is that it would be hard to work with on my fair skin, but the wonderful formula makes it easy to blend out for a natural finish. I really love applying Marsala with a contour blush technique, then applying Coral Pink on the apples of the cheeks, followed with Spanish Villa on the high points of the face. Spanish Villa was also the highlighter shade included in the Radiant Orchid Rush Lustre Cheek Sweep blush trio. I can see why they have included in a collection again as it’s a stunning highlighter.
I find that these shades do look lovely on my cool fair skin and the marsala tones are amazing for bringing out blue eyes. I tend to run neutral enough that I can wear warmer tones but if you know your cooler skin tones makes all warmer colours look atrocious then you may want to steer clear but this collection is so beautiful I definitely recommend giving it a try. Especially if you have blue eyes!
