Can you believe it? Physicians Formula has been around for EIGHTY years! That’s mind blowing to me. Back in 1937 renowned allergist Dr. Frank Crandall created the brand in tribute to his wife who suffered from sensitive skin. Over the years the Physicians Formula brand has maintained its dedication to purity and quality with hypoallergenic, dermatologist tested, irritant free products.
The Physicians Formula 80th Anniversary Collection is a limited edition assortment of products in retro styled packaging. Honestly I found the plastic packaging quite bulky and a bit awkward. But I can totally forgive the packaging because the products inside are outstanding. I was really impressed. I admit to being a bit of a drugstore beauty snob but Physicians Formula seems determined to win my heart.
I think the star products in the 80th Anniversary Collection are the eyeshadow palettes. The Physicians Formula Eyeshadow Quads in Classic Nudes and Smoky Plums are excellent. I think they also pair really nicely together. The matte shades in both palettes have a really smooth, almost creamy, texture that blends beautifully. I’m totally loving the formula. Just as impressive are the glitter shades. They are a bit soft, so you have to be careful not to dig your brush or applicator in too aggressively, but the colour payoff and glitter finish is stunning. Absolutely gorgeous. I am going to be reaching for these a lot. The Classic Nudes palette features two matte shadows and two glitter shadow.
The Classic Nudes palette includes two matte shades in a tan cream and warm brown along with two glitter shadows in ivory and champagne gold.
The Smoky Plums palette includes two matte shadows in taupe brown and dark brown along with a dark satin purple and a deep plum glitter.
The plum glitter shade may be one of my favorite new eyeshadows!
The collection also includes the Physicians Formula Powder Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in Pearl. It is a pale pink toned highlighter with a smooth texture and great colour payoff. It offers an intense shine and a bit of sparkle. It’s more sparkle than I personally care for in my highlighters, I prefer a more natural sheen, but it is beautiful nonetheless.
The Physician Formula Hypoallergenic Lipstick is available in four shades with a retro styled lipstick bullet. I found the shape of the lipstick made it a bit tricky to apply but WOW the shade I have, Red, is breathtaking. It’s a vibrant true red with a glossy sheen that makes lips look amazing. It feels really great on as well. Hydrating, creamy, and light. The other available shades are Nude, Coral, and Berry.
Now the last product I’m going to talk about is the Physicians Formula Le Velvet Foundation. You’ll notice in the video I’ll share below that I didn’t think this foundation would work out. I honestly wasn’t even going to bother trying it. I thought the colours all looked too dark and I just didn’t expect a drugstore cream foundation to be very good.
Well I decided to give it a go in the shade Cream Ivory and it was a pretty good match. I was stunned at how effortlessly it applied. I applied it with my beloved Kat Von D Foundation Brush and it blended on my skin so beautifully. It offered medium coverage and a natural finish. It actually set down nicely (which I wasn’t expecting from a cream formula) and didn’t migrate into my lines. It looked really great! There isn’t much of a shade range but if you can find a decent match it’s a lovely formula.
Here I am wearing the foundation, lipstick, and Classic Nudes palette.
And here is a first impressions video from a Facebook live where you’ll see my try the Smoky Plums palette and highlighter.
Have you tried anything from this collection yet? Stay tuned because I just received the new Physicians Formula Butter Highlighters and I’ll be reviewing them soon!
