This month Dior has launched their newly revamped Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick ($35 US/$43 CAD) Collection. These lipsticks are touted as offering 16 hours of comfort and colour. While the 16 hours of wear is a laughable claim, these lipsticks are indeed incredibly comfortable. The formula is enriched with mango butter, aroelat samphira, and hyaluronic acid spheres for a hydrating and plumping experience that is delightful to wear. The colours and finishes are luxe and alluring. I don’t mind having to touch up after several hours.

The packaging remains very consistent with the previous incarnation of Rouge Dior. The same shape and quilted band. The deep navy hue is a little more blue, and the chrome outline on the top of the cap has been removed. The Christian Dior initials on the top of the cap have a more modernized font. The most exciting part of the redesign is that the inside of the cap now features the luxurious shade of the Rouge 999 lipstick shade of red.

There is an impressive 50 shades available, 15 of which are in the amazing new matte formula. They are divided into 5 colour families:

I have been playing around with four shades, one each from the Legendary Reds, Passionate Corals, Natural Nudes, and Extremes colour families.
Montaigne Matte is an extreme matte shade and it is a unique creature. Not something you would wear on it’s own, rather this shade is one you can incorporate into your lip look in a variety of ways to achieve a more artistic look. I have shown it below simply added on top of, and blended in with, Premiere. The matte grey shade serves to both tone down the sheen in other lipsticks, as well as their colour intensity. You can apply it just to the border of your lips, or just to the centre, combined with other lipsticks. You can even play around with mixing it with lip glosses. It is really a very interesting and versatile beauty item.
Ambitious Matte is a bold deep red. The finish is matte without looking dull. The texture is incredibly light and silky. It doesn’t feel like a traditional heavy, thick, dry matte lip formula. It is very flattering.
Premiere is a shade I was surprised to see in the Natural Nudes category as opposed to the Pretty Pinks. But I suppose it is a pretty pink nude. Equally at home in either colour family. It is a gorgeous shade that I know I will enjoy frequently.
Actrice is a lovely juicy coral. I wish I’d had this shade to flaunt all summer!

Are you a Rouge Dior fan? I have loved this formula for years and I am always surprised when there is a relaunch, wondering how can they improve something that’s already so lovely? Well somehow they always manage to impress me! The new range launches this month, September 2016, at Dior counters nationwide and their respective websites including Sephora.ca.
