Did you know that it would take approximately 5 litres of water per day to keep a heated 30 sq. ft. room at the medically recommended humidity level? There are so many reasons why it is is important to maintain a healthy humidly level in your home. First of all dry air is…well… incredibly drying. I know that may sound obvious but have you thought about the consequences of this? First of all dry skin ages more quickly. We all know friends and family members who struggled with oily skin and acne in their teens but when they get older have beautiful wrinkle free complexions. I know my skin is showing the signs of aging faster thanks to my naturally dry skin. The dry air can also damage your wooden furniture and floors, and even musical instruments.
Health wise, dry heated air causes dry mucous membranes which means mucous can’t effetively do it’s job of trapping bacteria and viruses to reduce the danger of infection, colds, and allergic respiratory disease increases. Breathing dry air is harder on the lungs and makes it more difficult for oxygen to enter the blood. Symptoms can include tiredness, headache and reduced concentration. Personally I can’t handle breathing dry air at all. It immediately irritates my throat, lungs, and even my teeth seem to get sensitive. (Weird I know). If I get a cold I am a slave to my nasal spray because I simply can’t tolerate breathing though my mouth at all. For this reason I have always tried to keep a humidifier in my room but have long struggled with the noise keeping me awake at night and not keeping up with filling them and keeping their filters clean. Well the Venta Airwasher has been a saviour to me in so many ways.
The Venta Airwasher is more than just a humidifier. It is also an air purifier for allergies, dust, and mold. It’s made in Germany and is eco-friendly and energy efficient. It comes in three models:
- LW15 ($219 US) Humidifying capacity: up to 200 sq. ft. and Purifying capacity: up to 105 sq. ft.
- LW25 ($299 US) Humidifying capacity: up to 400 sq. ft. and Purifying capacity: up to 210 sq. ft.
- LW45 ($399 US) Humidifying capacity: up to 800 sq. ft. and Purifying capacity: up to 420 sq. ft.
They are available in both black and white. I have the Black LW45. It is larger than I need for my bedroom but I keep my door open during the day to help treat the upper floor. I sometimes move it to the living room to treat the main floor. Practically speaking I should probably keep it in the living room and get smaller versions for the upstairs bedroom.
The LW15 model has 2 speeds. The LW25 and LW45 have 3 speeds. Speed 1 is so darn quite you wouldn’t even know the thing is turned on! I’ve actually had to go up and check it a few times thinking it wasn’t. Speed 2 is also whisper quiet. You can barely hear it. Speed 3 gives off a steady white noise that is actually quite soothing.
The top of the Venta Airwasher houses its controls. There is a power button to the left. There is a blue light to the right of the power button to let you know it is turned on. To the right is a speed button. When changing the speeds the number of the speed you currently have selected lights up. The triangle light is the automatic shut off display. The lights are quite bright so I keep a sock thrown over them at night to keep my room dark for sleeping.
The Venta Airwasher is so easy to use. Just fill with water, plugin, turn on and your done. It comes with with Water Treatment Additive that helps soften and treat the water and maintain hygienic conditions while improving the evaporation process.
I absolutely love the fact that the Venta Airwasher doesn’t use filters and that it’s so easy to clean. It pulls apart so easily and once it’s empty you can rinse out the inside, add fresh Water Treatment Additive, fill it right back up and you’re good to go! If you need to do the occasional deeper clean you can just put some white vinegar and water on a cloth and wipe it down. You can even put it in the dishwasher since every part of the Airwasher, with the exception of the motor, is dishwasher safe. Just skip the detergent and make sure you use the lowest heat option available.
The Venta Airwasher is not just meant for use in the Fall and Winter with artificial heat. It is meant for year round use. Air conditioning can be quite drying as well and we all know how many allergens are floating around in the spring and summer!
Venta has great information on their website to show you how the Venta Airwasher works .They even have a new line of aromatherapy fragrances that are 100% natural essential oils if you want to turn your air treatment into an aromatherapy experience. You can also check out this video to find out more about how it works. I think it is so cool how low maintenance, simple, and effective it is. You can also find out more about the Venta and some interesting facts on humidification and air purification on the Venta Airwasher Facebook Page.
I think I’ve finally found a humidifier that I can actually use long term without becoming frustrated with it. I don’t have to refill it nearly as often as I’m used to and the filterless operation is fantastic. Plus the fact it is an air purifier as well is a huge bonus. I was coming down with a cold just prior to the beginning of my testing and I actually managed to fight the cold off before it got too bad. I wonder if my new Airwasher had anything to do with it… I certainly know my skin and throat are thanking me already!
