After the success of the Maybelline New York Eye Studio The Nudes Palette Maybelline has released a new Eye Studio eyeshadow compilation; the Maybelline The Smokes Palette ($13.99 CAD). Something a little more dramatic to add to your makeup wardrobe.
There is a fabulous variety of shades and finishes in this palette. Rather than being all dramatic smokey shades this palette offers everything you need for a complete look from a softly smokey contoured look to a full on smokey eye. Mattes, shimmers, and metallic shades ranging from soft ivory and pink all the way to deep plum, blue, and black.
The back of the palette gives you 13 different look ideas you can try by grouping the 12 shades into duos, trios, and quads.
The shadows for the most part have a medium level of pigmentation with the mattes being a little more sheer. Even though the shades aren’t richly pigmented, and are a bit dry, they are still quite smooth and silky making for decent blending and they apply well to the lid with no chalky effect. The sheerer quality of these shadows makes them easier to work with and less intimidating for someone to create a smokey eye that doesn’t quickly become over the top. I definitely recommend a primer to extend the wear time of these shadows for a full day.
Have you tried the Maybelline The Smokes Palette? Will you be picking it up. I think at this price point for a 12 shade palette it is great for exploring some new looks. Available for a limited time at drugstores and mass market retailers.
