So you may be saying to yourself, “I’m not 20 anymore, how am I supposed to pull this off?” Well believe it or not I am a firm believer that you can wear coloured mascara at any age. Here are the tips I think are essential when wearing a coloured mascara.
One of my favourite ways to wear coloured mascara is just on the lower lashes. I like to keep the eyeshadows neutral, and the lower lash line free of any eyeliner, to let the mascara steal the show. Shown is Peacock. For more impact you could also wear a coordinating, or even contrasting, shade of Marc Jacobs Beauty Matte Highliner Gel Eyeliner.
Now when wearing coloured mascara on you upper lashes my main tip is to make sure you tightline your upper lashline with black liner and apply black mascara, concentrating on the base of the lashes, first. This ensures you still ground your eye look and get the necessary depth and definition. Then I apply the coloured mascara concentrating on the ends of my lashes. Shown below is Violet Incredible. I put some black mascara on top of the Peacock on my lower lashes to try and cover it so we could focus on the upper lashes. I wouldn’t normally do both at once! As mentioned above you can add a coordinating shade of coloured liner to your look as well for an even more colourful effect.
Now the really fun part about these coloured mascaras is how they change in the light. You actually get even more vibrant colour impact when the light hits your lashes from the side. The colours can look reasonably tame head on but then you get these beautiful flashes of colour from other angles. Coloured mascaras really add a unique interest to your look that doesn’t compare to anything else.
Do you wear coloured mascara? Have you been interested in giving it a try? The Marc Jacobs O!Mega Lash Mascaras are so well done that it’s hard to mess it up. Where as some coloured mascaras can look a little garish or childish, these are vibrant yet incredibly wearable.
