MAKE UP FOR EVER has updated their Ultra HD powders and released new Skin and Lip Boosters.
The new MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Microfinishing Loose Powder ($44 CAD) is probably the most finely milled powder I have ever experienced. I mean it is crazy how light and fine this powder is. You’ll need to hold your breath when you apply it because there is no way to avoid it floating in the air because it is just so incredibly light.
It does an incredible job of mattifying and blurring out imperfections like pores and fine lines. It creates such a flawless, airbrushed effect. The translucent loose formula features Spherical Silica micro-particles to give the blurring effect and velvety finish, while Light-density Silicone diffuses light to help reduce the risk of camera flashback.
I think because of it’s exceptional mattifying qualities this powder is best suited for oily to normal skin types. I found on my dry skin it was a little too flat and I will probably stick to using it strictly in my t-zone when I need all day flawless makeup performance.
The packaging is fantastic. It has the centre mesh area where the powder is released through and there is an area on the cap that sits down into the reservoir to avoid any excess powder being released into the jar when it’s moved around.
There is also a reinvented and extended offering of the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Microfinishing Pressed Powder ($45 CAD). Available in translucent, as well as Banana and Peach versions, this convenient pressed formula includes silica similar to the loose version to give skin the blurring effect along with Micronized Pigments for a skin like finish and anti-dulling effect for deeper skin tones. The pressed version is less matte than the loose formula and has more of a semi-matte natural finish. It also includes hyaluronic acid to prevent the dryness often associated with pressed powder formulas. For these reasons I prefer the pressed formula for my dry skin. I also happen to love the new packaging with it’s metal effect compact.
New for MAKE UP FOR EVER is this Ultra HD Lip Booster ($29 CAD). This lip serum features hyaluronic acid to hydrate and plump, Loofah Oil to moisturize, and even more emollient oils for more glossy shine and hydration. It feels really light and nourishing on the lips and has no stickiness or waxiness at all. It feels like non greasy oil serum. It is available in Clear or a Tinted version. You can wear these as a lip treatment mask while you apply your makeup and then wipe off the excess prior to apply your lip colour. Or you can just wear it like a treatment or gloss on it’s own. I am really enjoying the formula and it has a really, really lovely light scent that is a bit sweet. Don’t ask me to narrow it down beyond that because I can’t figure it out at all!
Another new product is the MAKE UP FOR EVER Ultra HD Skin Booster ($51 CAD). This Hydra-Plump Serum is actually almost identical to the old HD Elixir formula. I’m actually really excited that they decided to re-market it because I had the HD Elixir years ago and it is a beautiful hydrating and plumping serum. Hyaluronic Acid, Glycerin, Collagen, Argan Oil Extract, and Vitamin E all help to plump and hydrate the skin which will smooth out fine lines and wrinkles and makeup to perform better on the skin since your skin won’t be trying to suck any moisture out of your foundation. The Ultra HD Skin Booster is said to increase skin’s moisture level up to 400%. I think plumping serums like this are a must for all skin types as it’s a great way to hydrate the skin without leaving any greasy residue behind. Apply the Skin Booster to clean skin and try to allow about 15 mins for it to absorb prior to applying your primer and foundation.
The Skin Booster is a clear serum that is dispensed via a dropper.
