This week on Makeup Wars we are sharing our tips to creating a 5 Minute Face. We all have times when we are in a rush but still want to look put together. To achieve a fast look that doesn’t look a hot mess we can’t just slap our usual look on in a hurry. We need to choose the right products and techniques to create a look that comes together quickly while looking fresh and polished.
The first step is to apply a complexion product that you can apply and blend in quickly with your hands. One that doesn’t involve any “work” to look good. Since my skin is pretty clear I like tinted moisturizer/bb cream products that also include a high SPF factor to take care of two steps. My favourites are the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream and the Lancome Bienfait Multi-Vital Teinte Beauty Benefit Cream.
If I’m in a really big hurry I will sometimes skip this step but it only takes a moment to apply a little concealer under my eyes and on the areas on my chin and around my nose that need a little extra coverage. My favourite concealer right now is the Clarins Instant Concealer. It brightens under eyes and also works wonderfully to conceal the redness on my chin where my eczema flares up without accentuating the dry flaky skin.
Next I quickly dust some powder on my face and also on my lids from brow bone to crease to prep my eye look for blending and it saves me the extra step of digging out my matte or satin skin toned shade base eyeshadow. I like to choose a powder with a bit of coverage like the Benefit Cosmetics Hello Flawless powder as opposed to a translucent powder since I opted for such a sheer finish complexion product.
When it comes to cheeks I like to take care of things in one easy step with a product that acts as a blush, bronzer, and even give a hint of glow to replace the step of highlighting. One of my favourite blush/bronzer combos is Benefit Cosmetics Dallas. I also really love Benefit Sugarbomb as a blush/bronzer combo on my complexion.
Your eyes are where you can really save some time. Choosing products that can bring emphasis to your eyes in only one or two steps is key. I absolutely love the Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill Eyeshadows for this. I can apply them to my lids and blend out into my crease with my finger of a quick yet dimensional look in one step. I also have certain eye shadow pairings that work well for this. To save time it is essential they are in one palette or compact. One colour on the lid and another shadow applied on the outer corner and blended into the crease is a quick yet contoured look. The new Kat Von D Spellbinding Eyeshadow Book is a great option quick eyeshadow combos that offer visually complex results in a hurry. For brows I will reach for a pencil as I find it a little more time efficient than a brush and powder brow product. My current go to is the NARS Brow Perfector.
Next I curl my lashes (a step that can’t be skipped!) and tightline my upper waterline with a black liner like the Shu Uemura Gel Liner pencil. It is such a time saver over reaching for a brush and potted gel liner. Then I apply a coat of mascara. A current fave is the new L’Oreal Butterfly Lashes Mascara.
Then I apply a quick gloss or lipstick on my way out the door (or in the car… shhhh) and done! When I don’t have time to really think about which one of the dozens of lip products I own that I want to choose I always find myself reaching for my go to Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stains.
