The new MAKE UP FOREVER ULTRA HD Foundations, both liquid and stick, are some of the best foundations on the market right now, and are favourites in my stash. I was so excited when I heard the new MAKE UP FOR EVER ULTRA HD Concealer ($27 US/$32 CAD) was being released.
The new ULTRA HD Concealer is targeted for use on the under eye area. It is promoted as offering invisible, luminous, and comfortable coverage that corrects and conceals dark under eye circles while blurring fine lines and wrinkles.
I ADORE the packaging of this product. It comes in a very slender squeeze tube with a small opening to dispense the product. It is absolutely perfect for hygienic professional use. The shade names are also very clearly displayed to enable you to quickly find them in your kit. Each tube contains 7ml of highly concentrated product.
I have been having a heck of a time lately with my under eye concealer looking wonky. I’ve tried so many formulas and they all seemed to look oddly dry and cakey under my eyes and have not been blending well with my foundation. I am happy to report that the ULTRA HD Concealer performed beautifully in this respect without accentuating my dryness. I have tried it with several foundation formulas, both MAKE UP FOREVER formulas and other brands, and it has meshed well with all I’ve tried. I was so excited to try it the day I received it that I even tried it on top of my existing makeup with great results.
The ULTRA HD Concealer contains Lamellar structure pigments to help reflect and diffuse light to brighten the under eye area and it does so beautifully. This concealer really does give a fresh, brightening effect. It also contains an anti-dark circle complex comprised of green algae and amino acids to help conceal and correct, combined with a radiance booster comprised of an Asian berry extract that helps stimulate collagen production to brighten and smooth the skin. I can’t attest to the long term benefits of this but it is nice to know there are skin care actives working behind the scenes in your makeup. The formula also contains a 3D elastomer gel that is meant to reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. I did find that this concealer did a great job of smoothing out the look of the skin under my eyes in terms of my fine lines. However when it comes to deeper lines/wrinkles I can’t seem to keep the ULTRA HD Concealer from creasing into these areas. The concealer is very pigmented and offers amazing lightweight coverage so you can get away with a very small amount of product. Even blending out a small amount of concealer and setting with powder I still experience the creasing. It is literally only one line under each eye that is deep enough to experience this issue, and it is a small amount of creasing, so this concealer has still become my go to concealer as the overall performance and look on my skin is beautiful. I will happily deal with periodically checking, and rectifying, the small amount of creasing I experience.
It is available in ten shades that are divided into two categories. Correcting and Concealing. There are five correcting shades to neutralize dark circles and counterbalance discoloration & blue tones and five concealing shades to conceal imperfections, even out skin tone, and brighten the under eye area for a refreshed look.
I tested out the shades Y21 Pearl (Conceal) and R20 Porcelain (Color Correct). Both work well for my skin tone. They are very light shades and will work well for those even fairer than I am. Y21 is very neutral and doesn’t lean too yellow. R20 has a slight peachyness to it to counter under eye darkness.
