Today I have 5 shades of the new MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Plexi-Gloss ($19 US/$23 CAD) to share with you. This new lip gloss formula from MAKE UP FOR EVER is available in an astounding 35 shades. There is a beautiful array of colours ranging from pale nudes to vibrant purples and pinks and even black! There are pearl (shimmer) and cream finishes available. Many have an almost opaque level of pigmentation while some of the shades are meant to give a more sheer wash of colour.
The formula is very thick. It is almost hard to spread onto the lips. The benefit of this texture is that it makes the gloss very long wearing. The finish is incredibly shiny. One of the shiniest glosses I’ve used. The thickness and shine reminded me a bit of MAC Lip Glass. They are promoted as being non-sticky but they do indeed have a level of tackiness to them. They aren’t crazy sticky, which surprised me considering how thick and shiny they were, but they are a bit sticky. Enough that you will get the odd stray hair stuck in there. Also, due to the thicker texture, if you apply too much they can pool into the inner rim of the lip. If you apply the right amount you get the benefit of great colour payoff, incredibly shine, and long wear with a level of tackiness that isn’t at all uncomfortable. Sometimes I am quite happy to trade off a completely non sticky texture in a gloss to get the benefit of extended wear and the beautiful lacquer like effect.
The applicator is very unusual. It is a flat and flexible doe foot applicator with a split tip and a lip hugging curve on one side. The flat shape actually helps smooth a thin layer of the thicker gloss across the lips. It also picks up enough product to do both lips without re-dipping.
The shades I have are:
104 – Brown Beige. A lovely nude brown. I was surprised how much I liked this one.
208P – Lilac Pink. I have been wearing this shade a lot. It is the perfect mid-tone cool pink and the pearl finish is very, very subtle on this shade giving it just a little more interest than a straight cream.
301P – Nude Coral. This is the only shade of the 5 I tried with a bit sheerer finish. It is a pretty nude coral with iridescent shimmer.
406 – Burgundy. Pow! This is one sexy burgundy red lip gloss.
501 – Purple. This shade is SO MUCH FUN. I love love love it.
What do you think? Have you tried the new MAKE UP FOR EVER Artist Plexi-Gloss. Are you willing to put up with a little stick for great colour and shine?
