There is a lot of buzz about the new L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stain Lipcolours ($12.99). Everyone is wondering if they are an affordable alternative to the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stains. Well right off the bat I will give you my opinion on that. If you are a regular reader of this blog you will know that the YSL Glossy Stains are one of my favourite lip products. That stance has not changed after testing these three shades of L’Oreal Caresse Shine Stains. The formulas are indeed VERY similar. They share the same wet feel on application that sets to a more cushiony feel. They both offer a stain. YSL is part of the L’Oreal group of brands after all. For me the Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stains still hold out as being my product of choice regardless of their more hefty price tag. I find them more true to colour, more pigmented, longer lasting, more staining, and they set better than the L’Oreal version (at least for the shades I have tested). That being said, the L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stain Lipcolours are still an exceptional product and a very welcome addition to the drugstore scene.
Eternally Nude is a peachy brown nude shade in the tube and when swatched. You will see below that when applied to my lips it darkens considerably and pulls very orange. It morphs from a peachy nude to almost an orange red. While an unexpected result I do enjoy the shade. I just have to remember that what I see in the tube is not the colour I will see on my lips.
Pink Resistance is a pretty, soft, warm pink with very fine shimmer. Just like Eternally Nude though it pulls very warm on my lips and darkens in intensity. Oh how I wish I could get the pretty pink in my swatch in my lips!
Lilac Ever After is a pretty soft mauve with fine shimmer. Yup, you guessed it. On my lips the pretty cool toned lilac/mauve hue is warmed up and altered to an unrecognizable shade.
I have no idea why these products have colour shifted so extremely on me. I have not noticed mention of this issue with any of the other reviews I have seen. I really enjoy the formula on these and I will continue to try other shades to see if I can find some that work better with my colouring. They are a great product for the price so I haven’t given up on them just yet.
The Canadian release date for these is January so hopefully we will start seeing them in stores soon.
