Lemongrass has nothing to do with citrus fruits but it does have a citrusy scent. It is a species of grass that you may be familiar with from its use in Thai cooking.
The botanical name of Lemongrass is Cymbopogon Flexuosus. The Lemongrass Essential Oil I use is from Simply Earth and originates from India and is distilled via a steam distillation process.

Lemongrass has been long used in traditional Indian medicine to treat fevers and infectious illnesses because of it’s highly antimicrobial and anti-infectious properties. It has also been used throughout history to increase milk production and treat digestive issues.

Natural Bug Repellant
I created this natural bug repellant this summer and it has changed my life! I am an absolute magnet for mosquitos and I found this season to be particularly bad in terms of volume of mosquitos and my level of tastiness to them. 😉 I had been using multiple commercial bug repellants to no avail. This recipe worked brilliantly! I’ve been out in swarms of mosquitos without receiving a single bite. A huge relief after the number of bites and bad reactions I experienced at the beginning of the summer!
- 2 oz water
- 2 oz vodka
- 12 drops Lemongrass Essential Oil
- 12 drops Eucalyptus Essential Oil
- 5-6 drops Spearmint Essential Oil
- 5-6 drops Lavendar Essential Oil
- 5-6 drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
- 5-6 drops Citronella Essential Oil
Shake well before every use.
I highly recommend Lemongrass Essential Oil to have on hand. It’s a staple essential oil for me.
