While the Holiday 2013 Kat Von D Eyeshadow Book focused on layer-able eyeshadow duos, the Holiday 2014 Kat Von D Star Studded Eyeshadow Book is organized in 6 quads for a total of 24 eyeshadow shades. Each “quad” features a neutral base shade, a lid shade, crease shade and accent shade. Or you can do what I usually do and mix everything up!

The size and layout of the palette is the same as last year. The black palette is made of sturdy cardboard and has no closure mechanism or magnet. Hence the eyeshadow book description as, like a book, if you hold it upside down the cover will flop open. The cover has raised stud details in a star pattern. Unfortunately this was washed out in all the different photos I took. It is a really cool design. There is also a nice large mirror on the inside of the cover.

There is a great range of shades and finishes in this palette with a healthy dose of neutrals. I was absolutely in love with the unique finishes and shades in the 2013 holiday palette but I would consider this 2014 version to be a little more universally wearable. The mattes are great quality. Overall the shadows are excellent quality with great pigment and texture. The only shadows I found didn’t perform very well were Gothica and Craft which are quite glittery and chunky with a sheerer colour payoff.
I swatched the shades grouped in their quads by top left, top right, bottom left, bottom right.

I think this is a great palette for anyone wanting to expand their eyeshadow collection with some great neutrals and fun colours all in one palette. It would also be an excellent choice for someone just starting to build their collection. The Kat Von D eyeshadows are great quality and I love big palettes like this. What do you think?
