After the huge success of the Kat Von D Shade + Light Contour and Eye Palettes (seriously, if you haven’t tried these yet you must) Kat has decided to expand on the line with some hits of color with the new Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad ($34). Available if four matte color combinations these eyeshadow quads have everything you need to create a beautifully contoured eye look. Each palette contains coordinating base, contour, highlight, and define shades. The four available shades are:
- Smoke
- Rust
- Plum
- Sage
I have the Kat Von D Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad in Plum to share with you today. This palette is quite deep so I found on my fair skin I had to use the shades in a different fashion than suggested. The base shade functions more as a crease shade on pale skin as it is far too dark to apply from lid to brow. It is actually a great crease shade. I used the contour shade on the outer v and deep into the crease and the define shade as a liner. I used the highlight shade on the lid, inner corner, and brow bone.

The packaging is really fun, albeit a little bulky, and features beautiful gold and raised lettering.

The formula is as beautiful to work with and blend as the original Shade + Light Palette. I can sometimes find matte shadows to accentuate the dryness and crepeyness off my lids but these didn’t do that at all. The shadows are quite soft so they will kick up quite a bit of product when you dip your brush in but the formula isn’t powdery in a sense that they look chalky on the skin. I really enjoy the shadows in this palette but like it more in concert with some other shadows for a bit of shimmer in my look. I really love the shades but if I were to nitpick I wish the base shade was a cooler pink. On my skin it pulls quite warm and doesn’t seem to compliment the other three shadows as nicely as a cooler toned shade would on my complexion.

Have you tried any of these matte quads yet?
