The new Kat Von D Alchemist Holographic Palette ($32 US/$42 CAD) is the incredible result of 7 years of work, sweat, and dreams from Kat. The Alchemist Palette is the kind of product that Kat always dreamed of having in her makeup collection but could never find anything like it on the market.

The packaging is beautiful. The outer box is more strongly holographic while the white triangular, magnetic palette has a subtle iridescent shift. Kat spent nearly a year sketching the raised letter “A” and intricate filigree that decorates the palette using lettering from antique books as inspiration.

Alchemy means a “seemingly magical process of transformation, creation or combination”. This palette gives you the tools to transform your eyes and lips with four different holographic tones. In some lights you barely see the difference between the pans, but when they hit the light just right you can see their special effect revealed. These luminizing powders are packed full of prismatic powder with DoubleDimension technology. The pigment is submerged in refractive coating to ensure it catches the light from all angles with 360° refracting pearls. Kat was inspired by the ancient science of alchemy (the art of turning natural materials into a precious elixir) to create products that would magically transform any eyeshadow, blush, or even lipstick with a gorgeous iridescent, holographic effect. The powders are formulated to be layerable, functioning as both top coat and transformer to customize your look.

The palette includes four shades to give you a variety of iridescent finishes. They can also be mixed and layered for even more variety:
- {green} emerald
- {blue} saphyre
- {ultra-violet} amethyst
- {pink} opal

And now for swatches! These are so stunning. Pictures really can’t do this palette justice. You need to appreciate how the pigment responds to the light.

And here are the four shades in the same order swept over some black and coloured eyeliners with a fluffy eyeshadow brush. Because these are so pigmented I find for layering they work best applied lightly with a brush so they don’t completely overpower the product beneath.

The Alchemist Holographic Palette is cruelty free and vegan. It will be available at Sephora December 22nd, 2016.
This is so beautiful. I wanted the highlight palette but this is made for the eyes. Want!!
Eyes, face, lips, whatever you want! They are beautiful and unique as highlighters. 🙂
Ooh, those are so pretty! I love how different each shade is.
As pretty as this palette is, though, I’ve read that Kat took years to put it together — which seems kind of silly to me. I’m definitely a fan of transformer palettes, but they’re not that hard to make or find!
Thanks for the review, Christa! 🙂
Thanks Rae! She must have had something very particular in mind. Or maybe she’s just easily sidetracked like me. Haha!
Does it say where the palette is made at all? Thanks for sharing! Great review xxx
