There has been a lot of buzz about the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Powders since their release in the spring. I reviewed them here and here. Well when the news came out that they were releasing a limited edition trio of the amazing powders in one compact I was beyond excited. When I later discovered that the three shades it includes were ones I didn’t already own I was bouncing up and down like a school girl. Yes, makeup gets me that excited. Now hush!
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (USD $58 | CAD $67) contains two existing shades (Dim Light and Radiant Light) and one new limited edition shade (Incandescent Light). It also comes with a 5ml-size Veil Mineral Primer to create the perfect canvas for your holiday look. Each shade is 3.3 grams for a total product weight of 9.9 grams. The regular individual Ambient Lighting Powders are 10 grams each meaning this palette of 3 shades is equivalent to 1 full sized pan product wise. Therefore you are paying more per gram for the convenience of having more than one shade in one compact. I think it is totally worth it! I don’t often finish a product given the collection I have so having 3 shades rather than one is a huge benefit for me.
- NEW Incandescent Light: A pearlescent powder that highlights the cheekbones and brightens the complexion with a celestial glow.
- Dim Light: A neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights a radiant complexion with a balance of warm and cool tones.
- Radiant Light: A sun-kissed golden beige powder that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth.
The Ambient Lighting Powders capture, diffuse and soften the way light is reflected on skin, brighten the appearance, and conceal imperfections, pores and wrinkles. They are not meant to be used as highlighters. There were so many people misinformed on how to properly use these powders when they were first released which resulted in many confusing reviews. I truly love these powders for results they give. You just need to be expecting the appropriate results. They aren’t spot highlighters and they aren’t for blotting/blocking oil/shine. Some of the shades are a little more shimmery than others and can certainly be used as a subtle highlight but you need to be aware of the variations and your colour selections.
Unlike traditional powders that use opaque pigments, Ambient utilizes “photoluminescent technology”—micron-size, soft-focus particles that refract light and create transparent coverage. They are universal powders suitable for every skin tone, and they can be worn for day and night. Paraben, talc, fragrance, nano-particle and gluten free.
Available now at Hourglass.com and coming soon to Barneys New York, Bergdorf Goodman, Sephora, Sephora.com and Space NK.
