Matte, liquid lipsticks. It is definitely the trend this season with many brands, including Guerlain and Hourglass, coming out with their own versions. Giorgio Armani is entering the growing market with their new Lip Maestro matte lacquers. Armani hopes to bring something special to the consumer with their luminous matte formula. Luminous matte? Sounds like an oxymoron doesn’t it? Well let me try and explain the technology behind this innovative product. The Lip Maestro formula offers the intense, opaque, pigmented finish of a matte lip colour with the luminous intensity of a lip lacquer. The transparent velvet gel diffuses the light allowing it to interact with the pigments and bounce back intensified colour. It makes your lips look full, smooth, and have a slight sheen. It is not a dry flat matte.
The product applies easily and is opaque in a single swipe of the slanted doe foot applicator. It truly takes your breath away when you see how intensely pigmented these are with a single swipe. The Lip Maestro are a little different than many of the other recently released liquid lip colours in that they do not set completely. They retain some slip with a slightly wet feel. You don’t feel them on because they are so lightweight. There is no stickiness or waxy feel. You can still move them around on your lips. They provide a light stain to the lips and regardless of them not setting they have quite a long wear time. They do transfer a bit and after eating you will need to reapply or, in most cases, simply rubbing your lips together to redistribute the lip colour more evenly over your lips is enough to freshen them up.
You will see in the lip swatch below that the Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro really do make lips look more plump and radiant. It is so nice to get the rich, opaque, intense look of a matte shade without the dry, flat look. After wearing these for several hours I didn’t experience any dryness. The shade 400 “The Red” is a universally flattering neutral red with enough blue help teeth look white. I’ve seen this shade on several girls with a variety of skintones and it truly looks great on everyone. If you aren’t afraid of red you won’t be disappointed in this shade.
