The Formula X The Brushed Metallics Collection ($12.50 US/$16 CAD ea) is a collection of 13 nail lacquers with a matte brushed metallic finish that does not require a topcoat. The shades are complex, interesting, and quite unique. These nail polishes dry incredibly fast so you don’t want to go over the same spot more than once or twice on application or it gets really messy and gloopey.
The fact it dries so fast is really nice since you can’t use your fast dry topcoats but honestly I didn’t like the matte effect on these at all. They looked really, really dull and accentuated any unevenness in the nail. With a top coat though these shades are stunning.
Mind Game – matte metallic olive green. Absolutely gorgeous with a top coat. Very dense pigment rich formula and pretty much one coater.

Ambitious – matte metallic goldenrod. A really warm yellow gold that is so pretty with a top coat.Very dense pigment rich formula and pretty much one coater.

Destiny – matte metallic sky blue. This is the only shade that wasn’t really matte without a topcoat. It is a really pretty sky blue with pinky purple duo chrome. Much sheerer than the other shades I tested and would need 3 coats for fuller opacity. Swatches shown are 2 coats.

Wonderment – matte metallic linen. This shade is a slightly off white with pink duochrome. Wonderment was one that didn’t really work out for me. Similar thick, fast drying formula as Mind Game and Ambitious but did not apply evenly. It was especially dull without top coat. Even with a topcoat you could barely see the duochrome effect.

I think if you like a really intensely matte formula you will like these but I say break the rules and add a topcoat and get an even more beautiful result. It’s like two shades in one.
The Formula X nail polishes are formulated without Parabens and Phthalates and is a three-free formulation.
