This week the Makeup Wars team is sharing our Favorite At Home Spa Treatments. I am all about at home pampering. Sometimes we don’t have the budget, whether it be time or money, to make regular visits to the spa. It’s important to regularly schedule in some at home pampering to show yourself some self-love and self-care and keep your sanity. And yes I do mean schedule! It’s far too easy to let weeks and months slip by without taking some time for ourselves otherwise!
Here are my favorite ways to treat myself at home:
Dermaplaning is a procedure you can have done at a medical spa where they use a scalpel to remove the outer most layer of skin to reveal a healthier and smoother complexion. It also allows your skincare products to better penetrate the skin for better performance. The other bonus is that in the process it also removes all the downy peach fuzz from your face so that it is baby smooth and makeup applies like a dream. I love performing this procedure in a more gentle (and affordable!) way at home. I’ve used the Tinkle eyebrow razors in the past which works in a pinch but isn’t the most effective. Thankfully there are some really great at home devices available now. The ones I use are:
DERMAFLASH Facial Exfoliating Device ($189 US) – This device pairs a stainless steel edge (blade) with sonic vibration to exfoliate away away dead skin cells and debris, along with peach fuzz for dewy, soft, and youthful skin.
Stacked Skincare Dermaplaning Tool ($75) – With the Stacked Skincare Dermaplaning Tool I feel like I am performing a professional grade treatment on myself at home. It is so incredibly effective yet much safer than the scalpels used by professionals. You still need to be careful of course! After revealing baby smooth skin with at home dermaplaning what better way to follow it up than with a sheet mask. Some of my favorites are:
- MaskerAide Masks including their Tell Me ‘Pout It Hydrating Lip Mask.
- Freeze 24-7 Anti-Gravity Lifting and Intense Hydrating Face Masks
- AmorePacific Time Response Targeted Eye Masque
I’m not one for foot soaks during an at home spa pampering session but I do love using my Amopé Pedi Perfect. This battery operated wet/dry foot file does an AMAZING job of buffing away dry, rough, and hard skin to reveal soft touchable feet. Their Diamond Crystal Extra Course Roller Head with finely crushed diamond crystals can tackle even the toughest feet. They have a great Amopé Pedi Perfect with Diamond Crystals Pedicure Gift Set for the holidays that includes:
- Electronic Foot File
- 3 Roller Heads (Soft Touch, Coarse, Extra Course (Diamond Crystal)
- Roller Cover
- Cosmetic Bag
- Batteries
This gift set is such a good buy because it is valued at $100 and retails for between $49.99-$59.99 at Amazon, Walmart, Shoppers Drug Mart, and more. Five of the gift sets include a holiday surprise Amopé Diamond Crystal Card worth $1.000.
The best way to start off any at home spa pampering session is with a nice hot bath. I love the Live Clean Aromatherapy Foam Bath ($8.99 CAD). These deeply hydrating and luxurious smelling foam baths are eco-friendly formulated with 98% plant and natural based ingredients and enriched with certified organic materials. They are free of all the ingredients I avoid for my family like SLS, silicone, petrolatum, paraben, phthalate and more. There are three relaxing scents:
- Lavendar Vanilla
- Fresh Water
- Tropical Coconut
If you haven’t checked out the Live Clean Spa Therapy line yet I highly recommend it as well. The Dead Sea Salts are amazing!
Now while in the bath I of course need to make sure I’m smooth and hair free. I don’t know about you but even in the winter I like to keep fuzz free. It just doesn’t feel the same slathering myself in a rich body butter or moisturizer after a nice hot bath or shower if I’m rubbing my hairy ‘ol legs. I’m sure my hubby thinks I’m doing it for him but staying smooth and soft just makes me feel good. I guess it’s a form of self-care taking those few minutes out of my day to feel good. My favorite razor has been the Gilette Venus for years and the new ComfortGlide White Tea moisturizes while you shave by releasing body butters and making the need for soap or shave cream obsolete.
To take a pampering bath to the next level I like to follow it up with a firming body treatment like the Clarins Body Fit Anti-Cellulite Contouring Expert ($70 USD/CAD) applied with the Clarins Multi-Mass Complete Self-Massage Appliance. Our bodies deserve the same kind of pampering we give our faces once and a while, don’t you agree?
