The new Too Faced La Matte Color Drenched Matte Lipsticks ($22 US/$30 CAD) are a refreshing change in a market currently saturated with ultra drying matte liquid lipsticks. This matte lipstick formula is more like a traditional matte lipstick formula but with a more hydrating, comfortable feel thanks to the Lotus Flower Extract they are infused with. They do offer a true flat matte finish but feel very creamy on the lips. The packaging is gorgeous. Sleek black tubes with raised lettering and a gold interior. The labels on the bottom of the tubes are colour matched to the shade inside which is handy.

Too Faced suggests prepping for application by allowing the lipstick to warm to the skin for a smoother application. I didn’t find I needed to warm them prior to application and they applied without dragging for me. Maybe I’ve just got hot lips! These last several hours for me. Less than a setting liquid lipstick but more than a traditional lipstick. I will gladly trade in the long wear of a matte liquid lipstick for the comfort of these La Mattes. The lipsticks, particularly the darker shades, leave a bit of a stain on the lips.

The Too Faced La Mattes feature an innovative high-pigment formula. They do indeed offer saturated colour in one swipe. I found the lighter shades to have a slightly chalky look but only on close inspection. Like the majority of matte lipsticks these do highlight lip lines and dryness but they don’t feel drying to me. I’m not really a fan of how matte lipsticks look on me but I do prefer this type of formula if I’m going to opt for the look.
