I have heard a lot of great things about the affordable cosmetics brand e.l.f. but I had yet to explore the line myself. I will admit, I’m a little prejudice against “inexpensive” products. I don’t expect them to live up to the expectations I have which is why I don’t often take a chance on them. I am happy I was finally nudged into doing so!

The first product I tried was the e.l.f. studio Eyebrow Kit in Ash ($3 US/$4.95 CAD). It contains a eyebrow gel and powder duo in packaging sort of reminiscent of NARS but with a clear window and without the rubberized finish.

It comes with a little brush but I don’t find it practical at all. The smaller angle brush side works fairly well but the other side is an eyeshadow brush style and I don’t see how this could possible be used to apply a brow product.

The shades are fabulous! It is hard to fine a brow product for blondes that isn’t too golden or orange. Ash is truly a lovely ash duo. The powder in particular is an excellent shade. The gel is a little warmer but still works and adds great depth to the brows when paired with the powder. This is an exceptional brow product for the price.

The brushes are nice and soft and nicely made for such a bargain price point.

The Eyeshadow Brush ($2.25 CAD) has a nice shape and does a good job of picking up and laying down product. I find it far too floppy for my tastes for a flat shadow brush but it does the job.

The Blush Brush ($3 US/$4.95 CAD) is a smaller size brush with a contoured paddle shape. It is very soft and does a lovely job.

The Complexion Brush ($3 US/$4.95 CAD) is again, very soft and is a nice size.

Overall I found these brushes to be nicely made with no stray hairs and I haven’t experienced any shedding or bleeding yet. The Blush and Complexion Brushes are synthetic Taklon and Vegan friendly. I think the eyeshadow brush may be natural hair? It is not noted as being Taklon. Given the amazing price of these brushes I don’t really think you can go wrong!
