I’ll admit it. I was nervous when I first saw the new Dior Addict Fluid Shadows ($32 US/$36 CAD). I feared they were going to be a dud. When I first tried them on the back of my hand my fears intensified. Well boy was I wrong! These mirror effect, metallic shine fluids are incredible and they may be one of my favourite new makeup releases. It’s all in the application. I’ll reveal more below.
The packaging is very Dior Addict. The tubes are the same size as the Dior Addict Lip Maximizers, so a bit smaller than say the Dior Addict Glosses. The neck of the tube and cap are in black, while the Dior Addict bobble remains in silver with the CD initials engraved. Wondering just how fluid these Fluid Shadows are? Well word to the wise. Don’t leave them on their side too long because the liquid will flow out. They are that fluid!
On first instinct you would expect to apply these to your lids with the brush applicator and then blend them with your finger. Well folks, that is the wrong way to do it. I found with this method the fluid shadows wanted to stick to my finger more than they did my lid. This lead to a patchy and disappointing application. This is the same thing that had me worried when I tried it on the back of my hand.
What is the trick? Well I put the product onto the back of my hand using the applicator. Then I pick up the product with a flat synthetic eye brush, MAKE UP FOR EVER 288 has been working perfectly, then apply it to the lid in a sweeping/patting motion onto lids primed with a cream shadow like MAC Painterly Paint Pot. I know, I know. Sweep or pat Christa? Well I do kind of a mix of both. It’s a pat with a small sweep. It applies the silky light fluid with perfect evenness on the eye. These shadows dry within seconds so you don’t have to worry about keeping your lids smooth for too long.
I was worried that once these dried it would create an unflattering tightening effect on my lids accentuating lines. Well that didn’t happen. At all. The Fluid Shadows are so comfortable and light to wear and I can feel no difference, be it to touch or sensation, from a regular eye shadow. I don’t experience any creasing or cracking or anything of that natural with all day wear of these shadows. There is no fading at all. I can almost see a small amount of fading near my crease but it is so negligible I can’t really tell if I’m actually seeing it or not. These are not waterproof or water resistant (the remove easily with water) so don’t wear these if you plan on hitting up the beach or doing a lot of crying. Without water your golden all day.
The pigmentation is intense. It only takes the thinnest amount for full colour. The shimmer in these Fluid Shadows is truly breathtaking. They aren’t glittery or shimmery but rather have a mirror like metallic effect that somehow manages not to be garish. I find these look very flattering, and appropriate, on my not so young anymore eyes.
