I find Dior is one brand that loves to go the traditional pastel route when it comes to Spring makeup collections. Some may think that’s a bad thing but as more and more brands try to break away from the norm it is almost becoming more difficult to find truly soft and romantic spring releases. The Dior 5 Couleurs Spring 2014 Trianon Edition Pastel Fontanges Quint($62 CAD/$ US) is a harmony of sugared-almond hues of pink, baby blue, and golden yellow embellished with beaded ribbon details and Dior signature.
The presentation is so lovely. The shades are so soft and representative of early spring.
The centre shade is a fairly sheer sparkly pale golden yellow. Top left is a decently pigmented pale silvery blue. The next two shades of baby blue and soft pink (more pink and less peach than my images depict) are very, very sheer and share the same lovely iridescent finish. The final shade is a decently pigmented cool grey brown with shimmer.
The overall effect of this palette is very delicate and soft. If you are expecting to achieve the shades in the pan then you will be disappointed. These are sheer shadows. The cool brown has nice pigmentation and is perfect for adding depth and contour to this quint. I adore the soft iridescence of the baby blue and pink but have a really hard time getting these shades to show on my fair skin. They may offer a more noticeable pastel effect on deeper skin tones. I do find these shadows fade so layering them over a primer or, even better, a pastel cream base, will really help bring this quint to life.
The Dior Spring 2014 Trianon Edition Pastel Fontanges Eyeshadow Palette became available January 15th, 2014 at Dior Counters nationwide and Sephora.
