Contour palettes are probably one of the hottest products in the makeup industry right now and the Youngblood Mineral Cosmetics Contour Palette offers a palette with six shades to naturally highlight and contour a variety of skin tones.
The palette is beautifully packaged. The palette is made from a thick sturdy foam with a faux leather exterior. It secures with magnets. There is no mirror. (I never use compact mirrors so this doesn’t bother me.)
The palette is organized in three columns with a highlight shade on the top and a contour shade on the bottom. The first column for Light skin tones, the second column for medium skin tones, and the third column for dark skin tones. The dark column is really more geared toward dark tan skin tones as opposed to women of colour. Even the enclosed tips booklet shows the shades on a deeper tan skin tone.
The three highlight shades contain no shimmer. This palette is all about a natural result. The Light highlight shade is slightly pink toned, the Medium highlight is more yellow toned, and the Dark highlight more golden. Being very fair I don’t find matte highlight shades to accomplish much. I like a subtle glow. If you have more colour then you can achieve a great highlight result using matte/satin finish shades in a lighter shade. I am absolutely loving using these as base shadows on my eyes. The formula is beautifully creamy and soft with excellent pigmentation.
The contour shades include a more neutral tan for Light skin tones. The Medium contour shade is more warm and a bit deeper. This shade works beautifully as a bronzer on fair skin. The Dark contour shade is a warm deep brown. At first I found myself wishing the Light contour shade was a bit cooler in tone but it looks beautiful on and very natural. I’m very happy with it. I have been using these to contour my eyes as well as they perform beautiful as shadows with their buttery, easy to blend texture.
