I posted last week about my struggle finding foundations that work on my dry skin and don’t exacerbate my dryness or highlight the textured areas of my dry skin. Foundations tend to break apart and go patchy highlighting the dryness on my chin and nose. They also tend to migrate into my deep nasolabial lines and around my nose. 2017 is going to be a year dedicated to experimenting with foundations, drugstore, mid-high end, and luxury, to finally find a wardrobe of foundations that I can truly count on.
Foundations
I picked up a couple new drugstore foundations recently to try that I’ve been hearing great things about. One is the brand new Maybelline Dream Cushion Fresh Face Liquid Foundation. Cushion foundations tend to work really well on dry skin. The L’Oreal True Match Cushion Foundation happens to be another one of my favourite drugstore foundations when I want a natural, dewy look. Unfortunately I had it put away for a few months and it seems to have dried up. 🙁 What really intrigued me about the new cushion foundation from Maybelline is that I was hearing it offered far more coverage than most cushion foundations while giving a natural matte finish, rather than dewy, while still working well on dry skin. I am only just beginning to use this foundation but so far I am loving it. It does offer fantastic coverage, while still looking natural. It has a satin matte finishes that manages not to look dry on me and it holds up very well on my chin and nose area compared to other foundations. Shade 10 Porcelain is also a perfect match for me. I think I am really going to love this one!
The other new foundation I picked up isn’t all that new to the market but it took me far too long to give it a try. The L’Oréal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Radiant Finish Foundation is raved about in the beauty community for it’s luminous finish on normal to dry skin types. I initially picked up shade 201 Classic Ivory. Unfortunately it turned too pinky grey on my skin so I exchanged it for 202 Creamy Natural which seems to be a better match tone wise but a little dark. Hopefully it will work for the summer. The formula really is beautiful. Great coverage with a natural, luminous finish that doesn’t look too dewy. It feels great on the skin and isn’t too slippy and greasy like some radiant foundations. It seems to hold up pretty well on my trouble areas but my skin still does it’s magic trick of eating my foundation in dry areas. Like all the new foundations I’m testing out I will be continuing to play with different primers and application methods. I do think this will be another drugstore winner though!
While I don’t have one on hand at the moment, one of my all time favourite drugstore foundations, that I’ve gone through several tubes of, is the Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream. The gorgeous dewy finish, with light to medium coverage, and SPF 30, make it a go to for me in the summer months on natural makeup days.
Concealers
After years of hearing praise for the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser Treatment Concealer I finally picked one up. I have been testing it off an on for a few weeks now and I am quite pleased with it. It has great coverage and doesn’t accentuate the dryness of my eye area. It keeps the fine, crepey lines at bay and manages to only crease very minimally. I will definitely be continuing to use and enjoy this. The only thing holding it back from being really perfect for me is the shade selection. The shade fair turns an odd pinky grey on me and is a bit too dark.
A long time favourite is the L’Oreal Visible Lift CC Eye Concealer. The shade is beautifully neutral and fair and the lightweight texture, with excellent coverage, works beautifully under my eyes but also on the rest of my face. This is a concealer I love to have on hand in my purse for touchups during the day. Especially when I’m suffering from a cold or allergies and need to touchup my nose area. This subs in great for foundation for perfecting my makeup through the day.
Next on my list to try is the Maybelline Fit Me Concealer. I’m not sure how I manage to continue forgetting to pick this up to test out!
