I have a genuine passion for makeup. I’m sure if you are a regular reader of my blog you will know that I have not been jaded by my years as a blogger. I still get very excited about pretty makeup. That said, while I get wowed by the beauty of many new releases, it isn’t often I am truly taken aback by something that can be called revolutionary. Well The Benefit Roller Lash Mascara ($24 US/$29 CAD) has done just that. I am blown away by this mascara. Not only does it live up to it’s claims, it totally changes the mascara game! I shared my love for this mascara on social media and now it’s time to share a full review because today is launch day! Please forgive me. This post is going to be a bit of a ramble!
I have always had to curl my lashes. I have lashes that are quite straight and point downwards. When I test out a mascara I always end up curling my lashes first for the before and after shot because otherwise you won’t even see my lashes. Well when I pulled out the (adorably packaged) Roller Lash Mascara I thought “what the heck, let’s see if this mascara actually does what it says it will”. I had no expectations that it would actually do anything more than any other “curling” mascara I had tried. A touch of lift that is still not enough but works well to hold the curl from my lash curler through the day. Well boy was I wrong. Benefit Roller Lash Mascara lifted my lashes to heights I didn’t know possible. I mean it is completely MIND BLOWING. My lashes look better with Roller Lash and no lash curler than when using a lash curler with other mascaras because it is a natural gradual lifted curl. My lashes look longer because they are more gradually swept up rather than artificially curled. I mean I always “walk” my lash curler up my lashes for a more natural, gradual curl but it still can’t compare to a true natural lift.
Not only did Roller Lash curl and lift my lashes to new heights but it holds that curl for the entire day. I truly can’t believe how remarkable this mascara is. How does it work such magic? It’s all thanks to the amazing Hook N’ Roll brush. It actually has little hooks that grab onto your lashes to lift and curl. Add to that an easy to remove formula containing lash conditoning Provitamin B5 and Serin, that somehow manages to hold the curl all day without feeling stiff, and you have a seriously winning combination.
The only drawback to Roller Lash is it can become a bit clumpy if you apply it like any other mascara. The thing is there is a trick to applying it. I’m not sure how or why I opted for this method right away, maybe because I was intentionally seeing how much lift and curl I could get, but this method has proved to be the best for both the amount of lift and curl achieved as well achieving the most clump free finish.
For optimal results with this mascara I only apply 1 coat. But it’s not just a normal 1 coat. By 1 coat I mean that after the initial application I don’t dip the brush back into the wand and apply a second time. When I apply it I start at the base of the lashes and and really get in there and wiggle it in and sweep the bristles through my lashes and push my lashes up. The bristles on this wand actually have really cool little hooks to grab a hold of your lashes so I really want to get them in there to do their job. Now what is different than a typical application is that I keep doing this working all my lashes up and out several times. Not just one pass. The more you work with it the better results you get. This means you get more curl and more product on the lashes than you would typically get out of 1 coat of mascara. This also helps separate the lashes and prevent clumps as you are in effect using the brush to comb your lashes through once you’ve deposited most of the product on the lashes. I find that this is all I need. If I go back in with a second coat it just turns into a clumpy mess. Combing through a second coat with a lash comb is of course an option but I prefer the look and performance of 1 coat. OK I’ve blabbed enough. Here it is… the AMAZING Before and After:
I think mascara always looks a little weird without eyeliner and other eye makeup on but WOW! I mean can you even wrap your brain around the fact that I DID NOT USE AN EYELASH CURLER! Yes them be some sad brows people. Thank goodness for the magic of makeup.
If this before and after hasn’t convinced you to try out the Benefit Roller Lash Mascara than you must have a cold, dead heart. Just kidding but seriously. Amazing!
