Today I’m sharing with you my thoughts on the Artis Oval 10 Brush. There are several versions available depending on what collection the brush is from. Mine is from the Fluenta Collection which has a modern, fluid design statement featuring a slender black handle. Other available collections are the Elite Collection, available in both Mirror and Fluid. The Fluenta brush design is inspired by the shape/movement of water flowing over an edge, which creates a deeper curve than the Elite Collection. The Elite Collection shape is a design/artistic example of Deconstructionism. Elite Mirror has the look off liquid chrome while the Elite Smoke Collection has a darker smoked chrome look with grey grip pads. There is even a new limited edition Elite Gold Collection. There is no difference in quality or fibre bundle between the various Artis Collections, so your selection can be based on your preference for the look of the brushes alone. The Artis Oval 10 Brush is $95 for the Fluenta version, while the other versions available of the Oval 10 are $75.
These brushes are getting a lot of hype. And it’s no wonder really because they are just so darn unique. Mind you MAC has had Oval brushes like these for a while now, but I’ve never tried them nor heard much about them unlike the Artis ones.
The brush is crazy dense and super soft. The incredibly tightly packed synthetic hairs mean that you’re not wasting product having it soak into the brush. All the product stays on top of the brush. The softness and denseness also means that this brush does all the blending work for you. It is absolutely effortless applying foundation with it. Not only does it cover a large application area at once, it also magically blends the product in with a single pass. You don’t have to buff or work the foundation into the skin.
The Oval 10 Brush is the largest they offer and it really is very large. I think it’s a bit overkill and I think I would much prefer the Oval 8 size which looks just about perfect for foundation application. Artis has a variety of brushes available ranging from quite small to the very large Oval 10. The brushes are offered in both circle and oval shapes, as well as some linear versions for liner etc. I have only tried the Oval 10, but I’m thinking for these brushes I would tend to stick to the medium to large circle and oval versions for cream and liquid complexion products. I’m not sure if I would be comfortable with the unique way you hold and operate these brushes for eye work.
So do I think the Artis brushes are worth the hype? I must say I think they are. Like I just mentioned, I’m not sure about the smaller brushes for eyes etc., but for applying foundation the Artis Oval 10 is absolutely amazing! I don’t usually apply my foundation with a brush because I find all the brushing and blending to accentuate the dry skin on my face, but the seamless one stroke way the Artis deposits product is so gentle to the skin. And fast! I keep my product to the top portion of the brush so that it is there for getting into smaller areas of the face, like along side the nose, which it manages to do remarkably well. I’m now really anxious to try the Artis Oval 4, 6, and 8 as well as the Circle 1 which I’ve heard is absolutely amazing as a lip brush.
The Artis brushes can be purchased individually or in sets and come beautifully packaged in satin lined velvet boxes.
