TheNARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint ($44 US/$54 CAD) is a revolutionary complexion product for those looking for a soft matte finish but still want a product that feels comfortable and and non-drying on the skin.

As someone with dry skin I tend to shy away from any complexion products that promote a matte finish as I find they suck the life out of my skin. The NARS Velvet Skin Tint feels incredibly moisturizing and maintains a comfortable, velvety, dewy finish on the skin all day. It gives a soft matte effect without any of the tightness or dryness. I found immediately after application my dry areas (which are abundant lately due to my new skincare routine including retinol) were accentuated but after the product had time to warm up and meld into the skin it no longer highlighted these imperfections and my skin had a healthy satin matte appearance.
The formula contains Transparent Blurring Powders that refract and diffuse light to blur imperfections without creating a flat or mask like effect. Rose Fruit Extract helps minimize the appearance of pores and control shine.
The formula is also rich in antioxidants, to protect against environmental free radical damage, including Vitamins C and E.
The NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint is available in an impressive 12 shades. Shown below are the three lightest shades: Light 0 Terre-Neuve, Light 1 Finland, and Light 2 Alaska.

The Velvet Matte Skin Tint offers sheer to medium coverage. It is a really effortless product to apply and blend into the skin and applying with the fingers works quite well. I also tried applying with a beauty blender for more coverage and it worked beautifully.

I love effortless sheer products like this that I can quickly apply and feel confident in the outcome. I see getting a lot of use out of the new NARS Velvet Matte Skin Tint come summer. It is nice to have a matte effect foundation in my arsenal that is still flattering on my dry skin and comes in a suitably fair shade.
Available now at NARS retailers (Sephora, Hudson’s Bay, Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom, and Murale) and narscosmetics.com.
