The KISS InstaWave ($69.95 CAD) is a really fun, fully automatic curling iron. It reminds me of those old Barbie hair twisting tools from when I was a kid.
The curler features a patent pending Curl Dial that allows you to easily curl either to the left of right. There are also 2 heat settings, high and low, with a max temperature of 420ยบ F. There is an auto shutoff feature that kicks in after 90 mins.
The base of the short wand has teeth to pick up your hair to be twisted around the wand at the touch of a button.
The curler utilizes Ceramic Ionic Technology to give shiny, frizz free curls. I did find that when I tested it out on my daughter that it tames the frizz on her hair a bit and left her hair looking smoother than when I started.
The curler quickly twists the hair around the wand but not with the neatest result. If you are looking for really neat “perfect” curls this may not be the curler for you. It was very effective at giving nice large bouncy curls with only leaving the hair on the curler for a short period of time. I didn’t experience any tangling during use. Below you can see the results on my daughter who has naturally straight hair. I gave her hair a light mist of hairspray after and the curls were still present, but much looser, the next morning.
Overall I felt the the InstaWave was fun but not necessarily any quicker than using a traditional curling wand. I could manually twist the hair onto a wand in the same amount of time it would take to place hair on the InstaWave and press the button. Mind you if you find it awkward to use a traditional curler than this may indeed prove quicker. I think where this product excels is in it’s novelty and it’s “fun factor” making it a great choice for preteens and teens wanting to curl their own hair.
